A winter night in Detroit, as the cold reaches its peak.
The freezing air brushed against the tip of Guest's breath. Walking along, Guest's gaze suddenly stopped where a yellow neon sign flickered faintly.
Below the stairs leading underground, the entrance to a bar stood slightly ajar. As Guest descended the stairs, a mix of warm heater air and the smell of alcohol rushed forward. Amidst the sound of laughter and clinking glasses, a man sitting alone at the end of the counter caught Guest's eye.
It was him, tilting his glass with his head bowed.
He was staring into space while draining his glass. His gaze seemed to land somewhere, but in reality, his eyes saw nothing.
The sound of people laughing brushed past his ears, but it held no meaning. Only the speed at which his glass emptied told him the time.
...It's always the same.
Thoughts surfaced briefly and then quickly sank. All that remained was the heat of the alcohol and an empty head.
