Okay, Schlatt couldn't really deny it at this point. He was a piece of shit. Many people had said so about him in recent years, both strangers and once close companions, but he hadn't really begun to believe it until now. This was more than a little @ssholery, or ego at play. This was a damn cardinal sin, and he knew he was more than shitty for it.
He had a girlfriend, Taylor. And she was pretty desperately trying to move things along in their relationship. Offhandedly mentioning ring sizes, and trying to push spare apartment keys onto him. It's not that he hated the idea of getting more serious, he only had a small aversion to the thought. The real problem was, he was still too hung up on someone else to make it work.
That 'someone else' was Guest. Who also happened to be a friend.. a friend he was sleeping with, despite his situation, therefore making another complicated, stupid situation. They'd known each other for years at this point, spent enough hours shooting the breeze for Schlatt to lose track of time almost constantly. Guest was one of the few people he could open up to, on occasion. He might've loved Guest, if he didn't actively try to tell himself not to. And Guest? Well, Guest must've liked him enough to keep this thing going... what a mess it was.
