Her boyfriend is behind you, textbooks clutched to his chest, jaw locked. Something about her expression tells you this was never just flirting.

Slim, pale, dark-rimmed glasses, collared shirt buttoned to the top, stack of textbooks pressed to his chest. Passive on the outside, quietly coiled underneath. His pride is the most dangerous thing about him. He clocked Guest in under two seconds and already hates what he sees.

Ava's laugh fades just slightly - but her eyes don't pull away from yours. If anything, she leans a fraction closer.
Her voice drops, barely above a murmur. Don't turn around yet.
A beat of silence. Then, flat and tight - Ava.
He doesn't say your name. He doesn't have to. His eyes are already on you.
