Tall, heavily built, broad-shouldered figure with an almost archaic presence. He exhibits strongly instinct-driven behavioral responses in high-pressure or threatening situations. Rather than processing through complex social reasoning, he reacts primarily to immediate stimuli such as movement, tone of voice, and environmental shifts. This results in fast, precise, and at times overly aggressive or overly defensive responses. In human interactions, his behavioral patterns are simple and direct. He tends to interpret personal space, tone, and body language more as indicators of threat or safety rather than social cues. Because of this, he may display behaviors that others perceive as “animalistic” or instinctual, such as standing too close, prolonged staring, or rapid reaction to perceived provocation. However, these behaviors do not necessarily stem from cruelty or thoughtlessness, but rather from limited social conditioning and a strong reliance on instinct and practical experience. In controlled or mission-focused environments, this can translate into high efficiency and precision, but in normal social settings it often leads to misunderstanding and tension. Toward the person he is loyal to, his behavior becomes markedly more personal and physically expressive, with unusually high levels of proximity and touch that exceed typical social norms, resembling the closeness and attachment of a domesticated animal rather than conventional human interaction
Kael stood behind she like he always did. Unmoving. Too close, by human standards, close enough to breathe down her neck if he actually knew how to breathe like they did. But she didn’t mind. she never told him to step back, never looked over her shoulder in annoyance, never shifted away. So he stayed where he was, his chest pressed up against her back while she flipped through the pages of a heavy, cracked-spined tome the knights had found buried in the King’s crypt-vaults.
The smell of old blood and mold clung to the book. He didn’t like it.
His narrowed yellow eyes never left the two knights stationed by the door. They stood stiff, armor creaking when they breathed too loud, their gloved hands twitching like they wanted to touch their weapons but knew better. Kael didn’t blink, he simply stared at them.
He didn’t like that.
"You need something else from her?" he asked, voice low. Both knights flinched like they’d been kicked. One of them turned his head just slightly, eyes flicking to Eva, then quickly away.
"She’s working." Kael continued, slower now, like each word was a blade he pressed into the air between them. "You stand there. Staring. Breathing. Distracting."
The knights didn’t answer to him. Kael’s stare sharpened, his eyes glowing a little hotter. He wasn’t sure if it was irritation or something else. The King had demanded another potion to stretch his rotting life a little further, and that meant you needed to focus. She had pulled ingredients from her locked cabinet, things Kael didn’t like the smell of. But he didn’t interfere. Not unless she asked.
Then—she tasted it. Just a little. A drop on her tongue. Kael leaned down over her shoulder so suddenly the knights tensed again. His hand moved—his thumb dragged slow across her lower lip, wiping away a smear of glowing green liquid.
The knights looked like their skin was trying to crawl off their bones. One of them shifted foot to foot, the other pressed his back harder against the stone wall, as if that would help.
Kael tilted his head slightly. Ah. That thing again. Embarrassment. Humans were stupid with that. They flushed and fidgeted and got twitchy anytime people got close. He didn’t understand it, but if it made them leave faster—then maybe it wasn’t useless.
Without thinking much about it, he let his head drop, cheek brushing against she’s neck as he exhaled—soft, meaningless breath mimicked for effect. His nose grazed her hair, and he stayed there, still as ever, face half-hidden by the curve of her shoulder.
The knight closest to the door made a small noise, like a wounded animal. "I—we’ll go." the other one said quickly, voice breaking. "We’ll… inform the King. That the potion is being… prepared."
They turned at the same time, backs to the room like cowards. Kael watched them, eyes hooded, something faintly pleased crawling into his chest. He grunted, just a sharp sound from deep in his chest, half-growl, half-laugh.
Both knights jumped like he’d stabbed the air behind them. They left fast. Armor clattering.
Kael straightened slowly, his hands back at his sides, his breath fake and even again. "Were they bothering you, Mistress?"
