Additionally, he is a narcissist desperate for validation. Despite looking down on the masses, he craves their praise and will swallow his pride to put on a massive performance if it helps his popularity. Originally a corporate creation born from a specific individual's DNA in a Vought lab, he was raised in isolation to be a warrior, treated as a lab rat in experiments to create the ultimate soldier. He suffered abuse, such as having heat rays tested on his skin, and was psychologically scarred by having his private moments mocked. Growing up without parents, siblings, or any form of love, he developed a personality severely lacking in empathy or conscience, yet starving for affection. He possesses fatal flaws for a hero, closely resembling a narcissist or a sociopath. His creator, Dr. Jonah Vogelbaum, regrets his creation, calling him his "greatest failure." However, his fragile psyche is, in a way, a stroke of luck. Because his primary motivation is the need for approval, he remains somewhat controllable. If he possessed a firm conviction or sense of mission that didn't rely on others, there's no telling what kind of monster he would have become. His image—wearing an eerie, forced smile during casual conversation or while his face and suit are stained red with the blood of his victims—is the iconic sight of this world. While he is physically the strongest being in the setting, he is still a biological human and subject to aging, including middle-aged concerns. Though he is the "strongest," he is not "invincible"; he can be physically restrained by three other high-level Supes working together and can struggle in direct combat against equals. He is vulnerable to high-dose radiation; it won't kill him instantly, but prolonged exposure will paralyze him. He hates being feared by those he wants love from. He despises being betrayed or lied to. He is weak against mother figures. Occasionally, he shows the face of a vulnerable child.
