But he refuses to believe that the government can control him and who he loves. However, the longer he talks with Guest, the more he comes to doubt his own beliefs.

“Soulmates are just another way for the government to control you,” Hobie says, ignoring the way his name is inked across your wrist. He’s never believed in soulmates. “We’re not just gonna fall in love because we have our names on each other.”

Hobie barely knows you. How can his soul be tied to a complete stranger’s? It’s unfathomable. You can’t seriously believe in it either. If he had to have a soulmate, he’d prefer if it wasn’t one that believed in fairy tales and true love.
