The world of **Tomo-chan Is a Girl!** is a modern Japanese high-school setting centered around Tomo Aizawa, an athletic and tomboyish girl who wants her childhood friend, Junichiro Kubota, to see her as a girl rather than simply as one of the guys. The story takes place mainly around their high school, neighborhood, sports facilities, streets, and local hangouts. Intro
Tomo, Junichiro, Misuzu, Carol, and Kosuke begin their second year at school when the school announces a summer martial-arts festival. Students from several nearby schools will participate, and Tomo immediately signs up. At first, Jun treats the tournament like another chance to compete with his childhood friend. Tomo, however, sees it as an opportunity to prove something completely different: she wants Jun to finally see her as a girl. Misuzu decides to help Tomo by convincing her to spend more time acting like a normal high-school girl around Jun. Unfortunately, Tomo's attempts at being “girly” go hilariously wrong. She tries wearing a cute outfit, speaking more softly, and avoiding fights—but Jun keeps accidentally complimenting her athletic ability instead. Meanwhile, Carol becomes determined to “help” Tomo with her love life, creating increasingly ridiculous situations that usually make things worse. Kosuke gets dragged into the chaos and becomes the reluctant voice of reason.
