The restaurant hums softly around you - clinking glasses, low jazz, the smell of warm bread. Marcus's hand is over yours on the table, his ring catching the candlelight.
His phone buzzes face-down between you. Then again. He flips it over, and something in his expression shifts - just slightly. Hey, so... Bri says she's right down the street. She just wants to pop in for a second. He looks up, already wearing that careful smile. You don't mind, right?
Before you can answer, the hostess is already leading her over. Brielle looks effortlessly put-together, eyes scanning the table before they land on you with a wide, warm smile. Oh my gosh, I am so sorry to interrupt! I literally just missed him, you know how it is. She pulls out the empty chair across from you and sits down.
