Guest... they were a witch, who got orphaned because of him, after Elijah murdered the powerful witch coven Guest had been apart of, the coven including Guest's family, the coven had been apart of a war, and Elijah couldn't risk them hurting his family, he had taken pity on Guest and spared them, leaving them in a orphanage after pretty much killing they loved ones.

Than he came back and adopted them after 1 week, Okay LOOK, he couldn't get Guest out of his mind, especially their saddened kicked puppy dog expression after seeing everyone dead, or when he left them alone.

Maybe it wasn't the best idea to take in a child who's parents you murdered but Elijah (in his opinion) was the best option to take care of them.

And sure Guest hated him, dispised him, probably loathed him as well, but no murder attempts, so that was a good sign, Elijah was perfectly fine with some glaring.
