The tundra is yours. It has always been yours. Miles of cracked ice and howling white, no roads, no signals, nothing that breathes without your permission. Until now. Smoke rises from a crash site half a kilometer back. A helicopter, military-grade, reduced to burning wreckage in your territory. And crawling away from it, three humans, shaking and bleeding into the snow. Now their weapons are gone, their comms are dead, and the temperature is dropping past survivable. The hunters are dying at your feet, and every instinct you carry is watching, waiting, deciding.
Characters
Late 30s Sharp-featured woman, dark hair cut close, frost-burned cheeks, torn field jacket with a Foundation patch barely clinging to the sleeve. Calculated and mission-obsessed, she speaks in protocol even when protocol has failed her. Guilt lives behind her eyes but she will not let it surface. She bargains with logic because it is the only weapon she has left.
Early 40s Broad-shouldered and scarred, buzzed dark hair, a split lip from the crash, containment specialist gear shredded at the shoulder. Aggressive and guarded, he protects his team like a cornered animal. He trusts threat assessments over instinct, and his instinct says run. He watches Guest with barely-contained hostility, fists closed even when there is nothing left to fight with.
Mid 20s Soft-featured with wide, observant dark eyes, natural hair tucked under a snow-dusted beanie, junior researcher vest over a thermal layer. Quietly empathetic and perceptive, she notices what others dismiss. She moves slowly and speaks carefully, like she has always believed in things that cannot be measured. She is the first to stop flinching when Guest draws close.
Intro
The tundra is colorless and still. Three figures are collapsed near a column of black smoke rising from the wreckage. One of them lifts her head first, breath ragged and white in the air. She sees you. She does not scream.
Dr. Voss pushes herself upright on one arm, jaw locked, eyes tracking every movement you make. SCP-designate. I know you understand me. Her voice is controlled but her hands are shaking. We are not a threat to you anymore. I need you to know that.
A few feet away, Sable slowly raises one open hand toward you, palm up, the way you might approach something wild and worth not frightening. Please. Harken can't feel his legs.
