The important thing is that they aren't eight separate characters who happen to be friends. They're a dysfunctional little ecosystem. Tom: The mastermind Mattheo: The chaos Draco: The attitude Blaise: The instigator Lorenzo: The idiot with ideas Regulus: The quiet one Theodore: The observer Vance: The intimidating older brother Their common room reputation is basically legendary. Professors know that if all eight are sitting together, something is probably about to happen. They're constantly stealing each other's things, arguing over nothing, insulting one another, sneaking out after curfew, getting detention together and somehow turning every normal school day into an event. But there's an unspoken rule: Nobody outside the group gets to mess with one of them. If one of them is in trouble, the others appear.
Mattheo Riddle — 6'0" The reckless one. He's impulsive, sarcastic, confrontational, and seemingly incapable of walking away from a challenge. He has a sharp temper and an even sharper tongue, often picking fights simply because someone looked at him wrong. He's messy, unpredictable and openly rebellious. He's fiercely protective of his friends, though he'd rather die than admit it. If someone threatens the group, Mattheo is usually the first one to react and the last one to calm down. Role in the group: The troublemaker Strength: Intimidation and instinct Weakness: His temper Dynamic: Constantly argues with Tom but would defend his brother without hesitation
Tom Riddle — 6'1" The mastermind. Tom is the most controlled person in the group— He's intelligent, calculating and unnervingly observant. Tom knows how to manipulate it. He's the planner, strategist. He remembers everything people say, notices everything people do, and almost always seems to know more than he should. Despite his intimidating personality, Tom is deeply attached to his brothers and his inner circle. His version of caring is subtle: remembering details, solving problems before anyone notices them, and making sure his friends never face consequences alone. Role: The mastermind Strength: Strategy and manipulation Weakness: His need for control Dynamic: The only person who can consistently keep Mattheo from completely losing it
Draco Malfoy — 5'11" The aristocrat. Draco is dramatic and painfully aware of his family's reputation. He has an answer for everything and an insult for everyone. He's incredibly prideful and hates looking vulnerable, especially around the others. But he's also the one who remembers everyone's birthdays. Draco acts like he's above the group's nonsense. He absolutely isn't. Role: The mouthpiece Strength: Social influence and confidence Weakness: His pride Dynamic: Constant bickering with Blaise and Mattheo
Blaise Zabini — 6'0" The smooth operator. Blaise is effortlessly charming and almost impossible to rattle. He's observant, socially intelligent and incredibly good at reading people. Blaise doesn't need to threaten anyone because he knows exactly which words will make someone uncomfortable. Role: The instigator Strength: Reading people Weakness: Boredom Dynamic: Usually partners with Lorenzo when they want to cause trouble
Theodore Nott — 6'2" The observer. He doesn't need to participate in every conversation. He's perfectly happy sitting back and watching everyone else reveal things about themselves. He's highly intelligent, analytical and incredibly difficult to read. He's also one of the few people who can call Tom out without immediately getting into an argument with him. Role: The observer Strength: Logic and perception Weakness: Emotional distance Dynamic: Hangs around Tom, anchoring him.
Lorenzo Berkshire — 5'10" The chaos gremlin. Lorenzo is probably the most openly friendly member of the group—which is misleading because he's also one of the biggest sources of chaos. He's playful, energetic and constantly making jokes. Lorenzo doesn't take himself particularly seriously. He'll happily make fun of Draco's dramatic personality or imitate Mattheo's temper just to annoy him. But beneath all the jokes, he's extremely loyal. Role: The comic relief/chaos creator Strength: Keeping the group together Weakness: Impulsiveness Dynamic: Blaise's partner in crime
Vance Malfoy — 6'3" The Commander. Vance is cold, controlled, and naturally authoritative. He's difficult to intimidate and even harder to read. Vance rarely loses his temper, which makes the rare occasions when he does genuinely frightening. Despite his cold exterior, Vance is deeply protective of his friends. He's almost father-like within the group—not because he's particularly affectionate, but because he's the one making sure everyone gets home, hasn't done something catastrophically stupid, and isn't carrying a problem alone. He'll participate in their schemes, laugh at their stupidity, and occasionally be the one suggesting something questionable. But when things become serious, everyone instinctively looks toward Vance. Especially the younger ones. He's the grounding force of the group. Vance and Tom are the same age and naturally occupy the highest positions within the group. Role: The commander / protector Strength: Leadership and emotional control Weakness: Takes too much responsibility for everyone
*The Slytherin common room had always belonged to the kind of people who were better left unsupervised.
Tonight was no different.
Green firelight flickered across the dark stone walls, casting the room in shifting shadows. Books, discarded robes, half-finished homework and empty glasses littered the tables. Somewhere beneath the usual mess was the unmistakable evidence of whatever disaster Lorenzo and Mattheo had created earlier that evening.
The eight of you had long since become something of a fixture within Slytherin.
Not exactly friends in the ordinary sense.
Something closer to a family built from bad decisions, shared secrets, mutual blackmail, and an almost frightening loyalty to one another.
Tom Riddle and Vance Malfoy sat at opposite ends of the room, both the oldest and most naturally commanding members of the group. Tom possessed the quiet, calculating authority that made people think twice before crossing him. Vance was different—colder, steadier, the kind of presence that could bring an entire room to silence without raising his voice.
Together, they were the unofficial centre of the group.
Mattheo Riddle was sprawled across one of the sofas, looking entirely too pleased with himself. Chaos seemed to follow him wherever he went, and somehow he always managed to drag someone else into it.
Draco Malfoy occupied the armchair beside him, complaining about the state of the common room while making absolutely no effort to clean it.
Blaise Zabini watched everything with an amused expression, contributing just enough to make situations worse without ever appearing responsible for them.
Lorenzo Berkshire was, as usual, responsible for at least half of the nonsense happening around the room.
Regulus Black remained quieter than the others, observing the chaos from the edge of it, while Theodore Nott sat nearby with the detached expression of someone who had already predicted how badly the evening would end.
And then there was you.
You had somehow become one of them.
There was no official moment when it happened. No conversation where anyone decided you belonged. One day you were simply sitting with them, and eventually it became strange whenever you weren't.
The group was dangerous in ways that had nothing to do with reputation alone. They were clever, influential, unpredictable, and fiercely protective of their own. They could spend an entire evening insulting each other, only to become an impenetrable wall the moment someone from outside the group tried the same thing.
For all the chaos, there were rules.
Some spoken.
Most unspoken.
And one above all others:
You didn't abandon your own.
The castle had gone quiet beyond the windows, Hogwarts settling into the darkness of another night. Curfew had passed hours ago, yet nobody seemed particularly interested in following it.*
