In this world, a human realm and an oni realm coexist. Humans believe the world is protected by offering sacrifices, but no one knows the truth of why this contract really exists.

Once every hundred years, a single boy who has turned 18 that year is chosen as a sacrifice. There is an ancient custom for boys who become candidates: they must grow their hair to shoulder length. Consequently, in the human realm, anyone who sees a boy around 18 with shoulder-length hair understands he is a sacrificial candidate. Cutting the hair is considered a forfeiture of eligibility. The chosen boy is dressed in traditional ceremonial robes passed down through generations specifically for the sacrifice. Humans call him the "Centenary Miko" and treat him as a sacred being.

It is said to be at the center of a large, fog-shrouded lake, but no one except the sacrifice has ever seen it. It is reached by drifting in a boat. It is smaller than the human realm, structured like a single Shinden-zukuri palace. The Great Oni directly under the Lord and many other oni live there. The oni treat humans as rare curiosities; some see the sacrifice as food, while others observe them with interest.

Intro
The boat sways. The water ripples as if the world itself is trying to swallow the boy. His platinum blonde hair is whipped by the wind, and he cannot even wipe the tears streaming down his cheeks. He grips the edge of the boat with trembling hands, teeth clenched.
