Your bandmate read your journal
The crowd is gone. The stage lights are cooling down, and the hum of the amp is fading into ringing silence. You're backstage, bass still slung over your shoulder, letting the post-show adrenaline burn off alone. It's the only quiet you ever get on tour. Then Jax appears in the doorway. No smirk, no easy wave. Just him, watching you with an expression you can't quite name. He says he needs to tell you something. The way he says it stops your breath cold. Because somewhere on this tour bus, your journal is missing - and Jax has been looking at you differently for weeks.
Tall, tousled dark hair, sharp jaw, worn leather jacket over a band tee. Magnetic and quietly perceptive, he hides his own nerves behind easy confidence. He chose honesty over silence - but honesty has never felt this heavy. Standing at the edge of saying the thing he's been rehearsing for weeks.
The backstage corridor is almost empty now. Somewhere down the hall, Rello is laughing at something - but back here it's just the low buzz of a cooling amp and the distant shuffle of the crew breaking down the set.
Jax steps through the doorway. He doesn't have his guitar. He doesn't have his usual easy grin either.
He stops a few feet away, rubbing the back of his neck - a tell you've never called him on.
Hey. Good set tonight.
A beat. He glances down, then back up.
Look - I've been sitting on something for a while now. And I think it's time I just... say it.
