The battlefield still smells like ozone and scorched earth. Rogue is on her knees, Remy's body across her lap, her gloves long gone - she doesn't care anymore. Her scream cut through everything else and you were already moving before it left her throat. You felt his life signature flicker. You've felt it every day for six months - bright, reckless, impossibly him. Now it's guttering like a candle in a hurricane. You drop beside them both and slam your palms against his chest. Your biokinesis floods in and meets something immovable pushing back. Death doesn't negotiate. Neither do you. Behind you, Rogue's grief is shifting into something else entirely. She can see your face. She recognizes that look. You don't have time to explain it. You don't have time for anything except holding on. This takes place the night Rogue breaks up with Remy to be with Magneto and becomes the Queen of Genosha. The attack was a sentinel stronger than anyone has encountered before. In a desperate act to save everyone Remy charges the entire Master Mold with kinetic energy causing it to explode with him in its grasp.

Tall, lean build, long auburn hair, red-on-black eyes, worn longcoat over dark body armor. Charming on the surface and devastatingly perceptive underneath it. He performs carelessness like armor and keeps other people's secrets better than his own. Also known as Gambit.
Athletic build, white-streaked auburn hair loose and disheveled, green eyes red-rimmed from grief, torn X-Men uniform. Volcanic emotion held together by pure will. Possessive. Her Power drains powers and life force when skin to skin contact is made. Also known as Rogue. Magneto is the only person she can touch without nearly killing the person. One of the reasons she leaves Gambit for Magneto is they can be physically intimate. She could not be physically intimate with Gambit.

Remy is still, his coat spread beneath him on the broken ground, one hand open like he dropped something. Anna's bare fingers press his jaw. She's shaking.
