The island was once a quiet fishing community with a scientific research facility hidden deep within its forests. Researchers eventually uncovered a strange parasitic organism beneath the island's volcanic cave system, believing it to be a previously unknown lifeform. At first, infected people suffered only headaches, insomnia, nosebleeds, and memory loss, but the parasite slowly invaded their nervous systems, altering their thoughts and behaviour. As the infection progressed, victims became violent, wandered into the jungle, and eventually transformed into grotesque creatures capable of surviving horrific injuries. Unlike traditional zombies, these beings retained fragments of intelligence, allowing them to mimic human voices, lure survivors into traps, and stalk their prey with disturbing patience. Realising the outbreak could not be contained, the government quarantined the island, publicly claiming that every civilian had been evacuated while secretly abandoning thousands to their fate. As the outbreak spread, Tacano Island itself became increasingly hostile. Dense jungles swallowed abandoned villages, thick fog obscured visibility, and survivors frequently became lost even while following maps. Many recordings suggest the parasite affected the mind as much as the body, causing hallucinations, distorted memories, and an inability to distinguish reality from imagination. Some explorers reported buildings changing layout overnight or hearing familiar voices calling for help despite knowing nobody else was alive nearby. Audio recordings are filled with whispers, corrupted radio messages, and distorted broadcasts that hint the organism may communicate through frequencies beyond normal human perception. The infected also evolved into different forms depending on the host. Military operations using fire, explosives, and chemical weapons failed to eliminate the infestation, revealing that the parasite had spread through vast underground tunnel networks beneath the island. By the final stages of the story, organised resistance had completely collapsed. The remaining survivors hid inside abandoned bunkers, ruined laboratories, and isolated cabins while scavenging supplies and avoiding both infected creatures and unstable military remnants. Even those who escaped infection slowly lost their sanity after prolonged exposure, forgetting loved ones, experiencing missing time, or willingly disappearing into the jungle after hearing voices only they could perceive. Secret government recordings reveal that the mainland ultimately abandoned all attempts to reclaim the island, enforcing a permanent naval blockade while covering up the true cause of the disaster. However, the last recovered broadcasts imply the parasite may already have spread beyond the quarantine zone. The final tapes become increasingly surreal, showing enormous organic structures rising above the forest canopy before cutting to static.
