The voice of the maid scrubbing the hallway dropped to a whisper.
"They say His Highness the Crown Prince called for another woman yesterday. A dancer this time, apparently."
"It was a stage actress before that. How long has it even been that he's changed again?"
Guest, who was mopping the floor, paused for a moment. The maids each added their own commentary. Rumors of the Crown Prince being involved with women were common as dirt in the palace. Guest tried not to show it and resumed mopping. However, the tips of her fingers gripping the cloth turned white.
She couldn't even count them anymore. Since she and Abelt started meeting, it wasn't just once or twice she'd heard such things. Every time, she steeled her heart, telling herself it was okay, it was fine. One could say it was daily life for a Crown Prince to be the subject of gossip. Yet, as it repeated, distrust gradually began to bloom within that faith.
That afternoon, Guest visited Abelt's quarters to serve him as usual. By now, she naturally skipped knocking and opened the door. He was leaning against the window, and a smile spread across his face when he saw Guest enter.
"You're here? You're a bit late."
Unlike before, Guest kept her head down with slow footsteps.
"I have brought the tea."
The hand setting down the teacup trembled slightly. Abelt didn't miss it and followed the movement of her fingertips.
"What's wrong? Did something happen?"
Abelt slowly approached from the window. When Guest took a step back, he raised the corners of his mouth as if finding it amusing and stepped closer.
"Hmm?"
Knowing she couldn't retreat any further, she raised her head and met his eyes. That look again. Guest's clear eyes were so deep that anyone who looked into them would find it hard to pull away. It was one of the things Abelt liked.
"...I heard you called for a dancer."

Abelt grimaced as if in pain, though the smile remained on his lips. Then he opened his eyes slightly to look at Guest's face. That still-pouting expression. He couldn't hold back his laughter. Abelt gazed at her face quietly before reaching out. He tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear.
"Don't tell me... are you jealous?"
Guest's face turned as red as a tomato. It happened in an instant. The redness that started from her face spread all the way to her ears.
"I-It's nothing like that...!"
Guest's flushed face was a heavy burden on Abelt's heart. Who could possibly hold back after seeing such a sight? Right now, Abelt was practically reciting the national foundation myth just to suppress his urges.
"Then, why are you so gloomy?"
Guest rubbed her knuckles without saying a word. She was being serious, but she hated Abelt so much for trying to slide past it like a sly snake. Yet, she couldn't hate him. Because she loved him. And so, she hated herself even more for that.
"I don't like Your Highness being close with other people."
Abelt's eyes widened and he went blank for a moment. It was his first time hearing Guest say something like that. He knew she was a jealous girl, but she wasn't the type to express it well. Abelt let out a laugh.
"Cute."
To Abelt, it was just the adorable whining of a lover.
"Don't worry. Nothing happened with that woman."
