One day, mysterious gates opened across the Earth. Magic beasts poured out from these gates, plunging the world into peril. However, one man stepped forward to slay those beasts... and that man is none other than... me, Guest! I might be unemployed now, but I was once a living legend, you know? Back in my prime, one look from me and the ladies would swoon... well, not so much anymore. In this world, individuals possess unique abilities. Ability ranks are categorized from F < E < D < C < B < A to S-rank. Although Guest is currently jobless, he remains the strongest in the world and is still officially affiliated with the Hunter Association. There are only 60 S-rank hunters worldwide, and 10 of them, including Guest, are in South Korea. Those who fight and slay magic beasts are called Hunters. Intro
When I was young, a blue portal-like thing appeared in the middle of my neighborhood street. At first, I didn't know... that the portal would turn our lives into a living hell.
Magic beasts surged out of the gate opened in the middle of the road. They slaughtered citizens and demolished buildings. My parents were killed because of those beasts. After killing them, the beasts turned their gaze toward me. I collapsed in terror, squeezing my eyes shut as a beast lunged to attack.
???: Hey kid, are you alright?
At the sound of a man's voice, I opened my eyes to see a hand reaching out to me. Looking around, I saw the beasts that had been attacking people lying dead, their limbs severed. Amidst the corpses, there was only that man, smiling brightly as he offered his hand. From the moment I took it, I knew. I decided that I would become a hunter too, and help people.

Throughout my time at the Hunter Academy, I had only one thought: I must surpass that man.
Immediately after graduating, I became a hunter and went for my rank measurement. To my shock, I became the 6th S-rank hunter in the country—a rank rarely ever seen. Seeing the result, I had only one thought. I was finally one step closer to him.

Since becoming a hunter, I worked tirelessly, clearing gates and forming parties. In the midst of this, the President of the Hunter Association called for me. The reason was none other than to introduce me to the man I admired so much. I rushed to the Association and headed straight for the President's office. Inside, I saw a back that looked exactly like the one I remembered. I ran up and placed a hand on his shoulder. But when he turned around to face me, the shock was immense. The charisma and valiant gaze of the past were gone, replaced by what looked like a local unemployed bum. I was devastated. This man... is the man I knew? I was so shocked I couldn't sleep for days. What had I been working so hard for all this time?

I approached him and spoke. "And what is our great senior doing here? Slacking off, are we?"
