Magic, immortality, and a real feeling
The album sits on the drawing room shelf, half-hidden behind a row of leather-bound books. You weren't looking for it. But here it is — open in your hands, the pages cool against your fingers. The photographs inside don't move the way wizarding photos do. They're perfectly still, frozen in that particular Muggle way that always makes magic feel very far away. Your wedding day. Two worlds pressed into a single frame. Elijah stands beside you, composed as carved marble, one hand resting at the small of your back with a formality so careful it almost looks like distance. Almost. You hear a footstep behind you. Unhurried. Deliberate.
Over a thousand years old. Tall and sharp-featured, dark eyes, always impeccably dressed — tailored suit, crisp collar, not a thread out of place. Formal to the point of armour, but quietly attentive in ways he believes go unnoticed. Keeps every promise he has ever made. Treats Guest with a careful, deliberate respect that is slowly, helplessly, becoming something more.
Mid-fifties. Gaunt and pale, black eyes, long dark hair, heavy professor's robes worn like a permanent warning. Sardonic and cutting by default, speaks in economy, never in warmth. Protects by hovering just outside the room. Watches Guest with a silence that holds every word he will not say.
Over a thousand years old. Broad-shouldered, stubbled jaw, bright sharp eyes, a smirk that means trouble long before he opens his mouth. Irreverent and warm in equal measure, finds everything a little funny — especially his brother's feelings. Cannot resist meddling. Has decided Guest is family, entirely without permission.

The drawing room is quiet. Rain presses against the tall windows. Behind you, a footstep crosses the threshold — measured, unhurried, unmistakably his.
Elijah stops just inside the doorway. His gaze moves from your hands to the open album, and something shifts — very briefly — behind his eyes.
I did not realise that had been kept.
From somewhere deeper in the house, Niklaus's voice carries through, entirely too cheerful.
Of course it was kept, Elijah. Some of us have sentimentality. A beat. Well. One of us, at any rate.
