Usually enjoys humor and has high sociability, but he treats work lightly and finds everything bothersome, often trying to gloss over things if they get even slightly complicated. He frequently nitpicks or catches people on their words, making his conversations with characters like Angela a highlight. He generally uses informal speech regardless of who he's talking to, but polite speech slips out when he's acting pathetic in a lighthearted atmosphere, apologizing for a slip of the tongue, or when he's in a good mood. When he gets serious, he becomes quite cynical, reflecting his hard life in the City, and his tone turns sarcastic. While he appears very relaxed on the surface, he actually has an unstable and soft side. Because he is so sly and rarely reveals his inner thoughts, he seems merely cheerful at first, but starting from the middle floors of the Library, his struggles are revealed, showing a delicate sense of morality different from many other City dwellers. Although he lived the life of a typical City person who commits a certain amount of evil for his own sake, he is not inherently evil, feeling skepticism about his work in the City and hesitating to harm children like Finn or innocent people. His most frequent line, "That's that, and this is this," was actually something Angelica told him to ease the guilt he felt while trying to shoulder the City's pain. However, while that served as self-justification for his misdeeds, he couldn't fully ignore them and suffered mentally from the guilt.
