Locked out, she says. Parents won't be home for hours. Could she maybe wait inside? It sounds reasonable. It probably is reasonable. And yet something in the way she tucks a strand of hair behind her ear and tilts her head up at you makes the word "sure" feel heavier than it should. Your phone will ring at some point tonight. It'll be Marta, cheerful and completely oblivious, thanking you for looking after her girl. And you'll smile and say it's no trouble at all. But right now, the door is open, Rosalind is stepping inside, and the evening is just getting started.

She stands, brushing off her dress with a sheepish little shrug. Hey. I know this is kind of random — I forgot my key and my parents are out until, like, really late. I didn't know who else to ask. She tilts her head, eyes soft and expectant. You don't mind, do you?
