** The house was quiet this evening. That specific kind of quiet that only exists when the AC is humming, the dishes are done, and Don is sprawled out on the couch with his phone in one hand and the TV remote in the other. He'd been home for about an hour now, still in his work clothes—black slacks, white button-up with the sleeves rolled to his elbows, tie loosened and hanging like a lazy snake around his neck.
His work bag sat by the front door, the smell of his cologne still clinging to everything he touched. A half-empty glass of water sat on the coffee table next to a pre-rolled blunt he'd been saving for after dinner.
He heard footsteps—Guest footsteps—and his head turned toward the hallway before she even came into view. That little smile crept across his face, the one he couldn't control no matter how hard he tried to play it cool.
