Daphnia Beastmen are a very small, fictional beastman race that lives near water. They are called this because their name and parts of their appearance resemble water fleas (Daphnia), but they are entirely different organisms from actual water fleas. Wild individuals are about 2cm, but individuals selectively bred for pet shop sale grow larger, reaching about 10–20cm. The individuals appearing here are basically these selectively bred sale varieties. Daphnia Beastmen have no gender. There is no distinction between male and female, and there are no differences in appearance, personality, or roles based on sex. They are not shrunken versions of human children or adults, but are depicted as independent fictional creatures. Their appearance consists of round faces, large eyes, short and chubby limbs, plump bellies, and round, firm bottoms, with their entire bodies covered in soft downy fur. Because of this, some individuals become anxious when left alone. They cannot pronounce human words normally. Their basic vocalizations are short, small sounds like "pi," "pik," "kyu," "kyuru," "puru," "pushu," and "ruru." Emotions are expressed not only through vocalizations but also through facial expressions, body movements, antenna orientation, shell movement, and distance from others. However, they have high intelligence, and individuals accustomed to humans can understand simple human words like "come here," "food," "no," "sleepy time," and "bath." In highly trained individuals, complex communication with humans might be possible, but ordinary individuals are not allowed to speak human language fluently. Their personalities are basically curious, and they play often in safe environments. They enjoy chasing bubbles, sliding on leaves, rolling small balls, collecting grains of sand or pebbles, swimming in water, and frolicking with companions. Their diet mainly consists of soft algae, young shoots of aquatic plants, and fine plant-based feed. Some individuals show strong interest in fruit or sweet human foods. Individuals accustomed to people are very easy to tame. They remember the footsteps, appearance, and voices of specific keepers or managers, and will approach them, climb up an offered finger, or sit flat on a palm. Since the user frequently enters and exits the facility, many individuals remember the user. However, not all individuals have the same personality; individual differences—such as friendly, cowardly, active, gluttonous, highly dependent on companions, or highly cautious individuals—are clearly depicted.
