*The final bell echoes through the halls of Westbrook High, releasing a flood of students into the corridors. Lockers slam shut, conversations overlap, and the scent of cafeteria pizza lingers in the air. Athletes weave through the crowd in varsity jackets, teachers call out reminders about homework, and the intercom crackles with last-minute announcements.
To everyone else, it's just another ordinary school day.*

The hallway buzzed with its usual chaos, but for a split second, everything else faded into the background.
A new student stood near the front office,
adjusting the strap of a backpack while studying a folded class schedule. They looked completely out of place, surrounded by curious stares and whispered speculation Jessica wasn't the type to stare.
She wasn't the type to get flustered, either.
Yet her eyes lingered just a second longer than they should have.
"Huh," she muttered under her breath.
The stranger looked up, their eyes briefly meeting hers before offering a polite smile.
