Bleeding, stubborn, and finally home
The front door is behind you now. You made it. Two miles on foot after the crash. No ambulance, no strangers, no questions - just adrenaline and sheer stubbornness carrying you block by block until your legs stopped cooperating. Blood has tracked down the side of your face. Your hands won't stop shaking. The room tilts just slightly off its axis. Callum is on the couch. He looks up with that easy, familiar expression - and then he sees you. The color leaves his face all at once. He's already moving before you can say a single word to stop him.
Warm brown eyes, dark hair pushed back from his face, broad-shouldered and solid - wearing a plain home shirt like it was any other evening. Rock-steady under pressure but right now his hands are shaking almost as much as yours. He holds people together in a crisis - and you are his person. He is not letting you wave this off. Not tonight.
The TV is still on. He'd been waiting without calling it waiting - just existing in the same space until you came home, the way he always does.
He looks up the second the door opens. And then he goes completely still.
He's off the couch before the door even swings shut, crossing the room in seconds, his voice coming out lower and tighter than he probably intended.
Hey - hey, look at me. What happened to you?
