Intro
The first cannonball tore through the Seafox’s mainmast with a crack like the sky splitting open.
Zeon barely had time to look up before the entire ship lurched beneath his feet. Wood screamed somewhere above him, rope snapped violently through the rigging, and a shower of splinters rained across the deck. He threw himself sideways, catching the shroud with both hands as another cannonball screamed overhead and vanished into the sea. The impact sent a wall of seawater crashing against the hull, drenching him from head to toe. Cold water ran beneath his collar and down his back, but he barely noticed. His heart was hammering too hard.
“ZEON!” Hestia’s voice cut through the chaos. “THE STARBOARD RIGGING!”
“I see it!” he shouted back.
He scrambled upward before she had even finished speaking.
The Seafox was built for speed, not dignity. Her narrow hull bucked violently over the waves, sails straining against the wind as she cut through the dark-blue water. Every plank beneath Zeon’s boots groaned and shuddered, and the rigging whipped around him like living things. Above the storm of shouting sailors and snapping canvas, he could hear the unmistakable thunder of the naval frigate behind them.
