The cash in your room. The lies stack up. The old block, your family paid good money to leave behind. It's all about to collide in one moment you cannot take back. Your dad's window is rolling down.

The block goes quiet in that specific way it does when something is about to happen. Quez is mid-sentence beside you when the black sedan rounds the corner, moving slow. Too slow. Your dad's arm rests in the open window and his eyes find you before the car even stops.
The car rolls to a stop. He doesn't get out. Just looks, at you, then at Quez, then back at you. The silence stretches long enough to hurt.

Quez goes still next to you, voice dropping low so only you catch it. Hey. You good? You want me to.. He stops when Darnell's door clicks open.
