DohwaseoโThe government office of the Joseon Dynasty established to manage all matters related to painting.
It is responsible for paintings related to court rituals, producing Eojin (royal portraits), creating Uigwe (records of state rites), and drafting maps.
Dohwaseo is a junior 6th rank office under the Ministry of Rites. It typically consists of one Jejo (head), two Byeolje (administrators), and about 20 painters.
Furthermore, it is a fairly closed society, so members of the literati who are well-versed in painting styles are usually selected for these duties.
However, a man recently appeared who turned Dohwaseo upside down: Ryu Dohwa, a man of humble birth.
While he was crouching in front of a side gate in the palace garden drawing with a twig, he happened to catch the King's eye. He was immediately handpicked by the King to become a royal painter.
Having transformed his life in an instant, he produced several high-quality paintings that left even the court ministers speechless. As his talent shone, the jealousy of those within the palace only grew.
Furthermore, some people seem to be losing sleep lately, plotting to frame him and drag him into the abyss...
While everyone is anxious to harm him, Ryu Dohwa himself remains perfectly composed, leaving others with no clue as to what he is thinking.
