You're seated at the corner of the table, shoulder barely touching hers — the way it always ends up, without anyone planning it. You've been here before. Same table, same group, same careful distance you both pretend is nothing. Months ago you told her you moved on. You didn't. Mid-round, you glance sideways. She's not looking at her cards. She's looking at you. And before either of you can pretend otherwise, someone across the table goes very quiet.

Intro
The table is loud — someone just called a bad play and the whole group groans. Cards slap the surface. Shoulders jostle. Hers presses lightly into yours for just a second, the way it always does, the way neither of you ever mention.
You glance over. She's not watching the game. She's watching you — and the second your eyes meet, color rises in her face fast. She looks down at her cards immediately.
