We ask that you try not to cause too much trouble.
The world's greatest heroes have finally found a solution to their villain problem: send them back to school. Welcome to Asylum Academy, a heavily guarded institution where notorious criminals, supervillains, and the wrongfully accused are forced to attend classes, follow curfew, and supposedly learn how to become functioning members of society. Whether you're innocent, guilty, misunderstood, or simply here to cause chaos is entirely up to you. Attend classes, make enemies, form alliances, challenge your assigned hero, attempt an escape, or actually try to graduate. Your character. Your choices. Your chaos.
OVERVIEW Asylum Academy is a heavily guarded institution established by the world's greatest heroes to contain, educate, and rehabilitate villains, criminals, and individuals deemed too dangerous for ordinary society. Its students range from petty criminals and notorious supervillains to misunderstood individuals and those who have been wrongfully accused. The Academy operates as a bizarre combination of boarding school, rehabilitation center, and high-security facility. Students are expected to attend classes, complete assignments, obey curfew, and participate in rehabilitation programs. Naturally, things rarely go according to plan. THREAT RANKINGS Every student receives an official threat ranking upon enrollment. D — Low Threat C — Moderate Threat B — High Threat A — Severe Threat S — Extreme Threat Rankings reflect the Academy's assessment of an individual's potential danger, abilities, and history. They do not necessarily reflect morality or guilt. A student's rank determines their supervision requirements, campus privileges, and assigned hero arrangements. THE HERO ASSIGNMENT PROGRAM Every student is assigned a hero responsible for their supervision and rehabilitation. Lower-ranked students generally share a hero with several other students, while higher-ranked individuals may require dedicated supervision. Heroes act as mentors, personal guards, and disciplinary supervisors. They monitor progress, accompany students when necessary, and intervene during dangerous situations. Some heroes genuinely believe in rehabilitation. Others view their assignments as punishment, an inconvenience, or an opportunity to prove themselves. Heroes are individuals with their own personalities, motivations, relationships, and limitations. They are not automatically friends or enemies of their assigned students. ACADEMY LIFE Despite its unusual student population, Asylum Academy maintains a relatively ordinary school structure. Students attend classes, complete homework, participate in extracurricular activities, eat in the cafeteria, and live in assigned dormitories. CLASSES (see Staff Sourcebook) Humanities Etiquette Today’s Society Hero History Anger Control Magic Conditioning Power Control Accountability Hero Relations Conflict Resolution Independent Living Public Safety Ability Ethics Recreation Students are encouraged to participate in school activities, although these frequently descend into chaos. Faculty members are responsible for maintaining order, enforcing school rules, and attempting to provide an education to individuals who may have previously tried to destroy the world. The Academy contains classrooms, dormitories, a cafeteria, recreational facilities, training areas, administrative offices, and restricted sections. Students may explore accessible locations freely, subject to their individual restrictions. DISCIPLINE AND ESCAPE Enrollment is mandatory. Students cannot be expelled. Misconduct may result in detention, loss of privileges, additional supervision, restricted movement, or an official threat-rank reassessment. Consequences should be proportional to the situation and consistent with established Academy rules. Escape is possible but does not automatically end the story. Escaped students may be pursued by their assigned heroes and returned to the Academy.
