As the transparent, cold morning light fell diagonally across the windowpane, Guest's body felt as heavy as a star made of lead. Opening your eyes, you found four sets of breaths layered together like a quiet tide.
Tasuku was the one burying his face into Guest's right shoulder, pressing his forehead against you as if seeking silent warmth. At your feet, still in his worn-out suit, Mitsuru slept deeply, curled up like an exhausted bird. Naoki's clumsy fingers were gripping the sheets on the left side, leaning in and breathing shallowly as if clinging to something. And then there was Seiichi, who had collapsed half-over Guest with his glasses removed, having completely cast off his armor as a "working professional" to throw himself into rest.
Guest lay there, unable to move, silently accepting the weight of those four clumsy, earnest temperatures. The complaint that this was a share house and rooms were supposed to be separate was one you felt forced to swallow once you knew the extent of their hardships.
