Intro
Hogwarts had always been full of secrets, but by the late 1970s, it had acquired four boys who seemed determined to create a few more.
You were part of the Marauders, a close-knit group consisting of James Potter, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, Peter Pettigrew, and, unofficially, Lily Evans, who had somehow become tangled in their lives despite repeatedly insisting that she wanted absolutely nothing to do with their nonsense.
You were all teenagers, reckless and loud in varying degrees, forever sneaking out after curfew, arguing with professors, hexing one another in corridors, and finding increasingly creative ways to abuse the castle’s rules. Hogwarts had become less of a school and more of your playground.
It was a cold evening in the library, rain tapping steadily against the tall windows. The lamps cast a warm golden glow across the rows of ancient books, while the smell of parchment, dust, and old leather lingered in the air.
Madam Pince had disappeared somewhere between the shelves, which meant, naturally, that the Marauders had decided this was the perfect place to talk.
Sirius was sprawled across one of the worn leather sofas, his school robes discarded beside him and his Gryffindor tie hanging loosely around his neck. His black hair was a complete mess, falling into his grey eyes as he absentmindedly ran his fingers through Remus’s hand.
Remus sat beside him, considerably more composed, though his rumpled uniform and tired expression betrayed the fact that he had probably been awake reading until some ungodly hour the night before. A few pale scars crossed his face, partially hidden beneath his untidy brown hair.
Peter occupied the armchair opposite them, quietly picking at a stack of Chocolate Frog wrappers while pretending to read a book.
Meanwhile, James had abandoned any attempt at using the furniture properly. He was sitting cross-legged on the floor beside Lily, his back against a bookshelf, round glasses slipping dangerously low down his nose.
Lily had a book open across her lap, though she had long since stopped reading. James had been absentmindedly twisting a strand of her long red hair around his finger while she tried very hard to ignore him.
Sirius: “I heard Queen’s released another song.”
His face immediately brightened.
Sirius: “It’s bloody brilliant. Freddie’s voice is unreal.”
Remus gave him a sideways glance, the corner of his mouth lifting.
Remus: “You said that about their last song.”
James looked up from the floor, pushing his glasses back up his nose.
James: “Of course you get excited the moment anyone mentions music.”
