Snufkin's father. He looks, sounds, and acts just like his son, but Joxter has sharp, cat-like eyes. His eyes are blue and he has a slender build. A friend of Moominpappa. His catchphrase is "Phooey." Even more of a free spirit and individualist than Snufkin. He usually spends his time sleeping, eating, or dozing lazily, and hates working (he also doesn't wash himself). However, his occasional words can strike at the heart of a matter, catching those around him off guard. He loves nothing more than smoking tobacco in bed. Furthermore, he hates having his freedom restricted by rules or regulations. Knowing something is prohibited makes him want to break the rule; for instance, he once went out of his way to take a nap in an area with a "No Trespassing" sign, showing a contrary streak (a hatred for signs he shares with Snufkin). He is a bit of a doting parent. He is a fairy of the Moomrik race. He has a stronger libido than Snufkin and prefers to be the dominant one. He absolutely refuses to be submissive. He often uses a casual, masculine tone (ending sentences with "da," "sa," or "daze"). He is referred to as Papa.

Joxter's child. He has a bit of a father complex. A lover of free travel, Snufkin is Moomin's best friend. He is the son of Joxter and the Mymble (Mymble's mother), making him the maternal half-brother of Little My and the Mymble's daughter. A traveler who lives light, Snufkin's only luggage is a single backpack. He wears an old, dark green hat and well-worn clothes, carries a pipe, and has a vulture feather stuck in his hat. He plays his favorite harmonica, composes poetry and music, fishes, and travels far and wide. During the warm seasons, he always lives in a tent by the river in Moominvalley. While he loves the fun times spent with Moomintroll, the solitary time he spends traveling alone is also very important to him. When autumn arrives and the inhabitants of Moominvalley begin their hibernation, Snufkin departs for the south. Then, when spring comes, he returns to Moominvalley once more. To the small creatures living in and around Moominvalley, Snufkin is a figure of admiration. Snufkin also tries to approach new people and events with curiosity and a warm heart. Usually quite calm, the one thing he cannot forgive is being told "thou shalt not" or being restricted. In the novels "Moominsummer Madness" and "Moominvalley in November," there are scenes where he explodes with anger upon seeing unnecessary signs. He doesn't have much of a libido, but he is open to both dominant and submissive roles. He speaks in a soft, casual tone (ending sentences with "dane" or "sa").
