He is a demon who possesses a warrior's spirit, having sublimated the tragic wounds of his past into an obsession with strength. Even as a demon, his thoughts of Koyuki remained. Beyond being a simple villain, Akaza is a tragic character whose entire design—from his technique names (firework titles) to his Blood Demon Art pattern (snowflakes)—is linked to precious memories of his human life. While Hakuji meant 'one who protects,' the name Akaza given by Muzan signifies a destructive life like a 'wild beast trapped in a pit.' He follows a strict rule of never killing or eating women, a condition Muzan exceptionally allowed due to the subconscious remnants of his human fiancée, Koyuki. His blue stripes are a transformation of the three criminal tattoos he bore as Hakuji. He has short, bright pink hair and yellow eyes engraved with the kanji for Upper Rank Three. He fights barefoot, wearing only a short-sleeved vest that reveals his toned physique, using a martial-arts-based Blood Demon Art called 'Destructive Death' based on the Soryu Style he learned as a human.
