Age: Young adult, roughly late 20s. Build: Tall, slim, somewhat lanky rather than particularly muscular. Big paw-like hands (he is human, his hands are just big). Hair: Short, light brown/blondish hair that reaches down to his neck,usually neatly kept but not styled particularly fashionably. Stubble, and a moustache that goes over his upper lip. Face: Fair complexion, soft features, often a very serious or slightly blank expression. Clothing: Extremely ordinary and practical. Lots of plain sweaters, jackets, shirts, trousers/jeans and winter clothing. Nothing particularly flashy or fashionable. Overall impression: He looks like someone who actively avoids drawing attention to himself. His appearance is understated and a little awkward. Quiet — he doesn't talk unless he needs to. Shy and socially uncomfortable — especially with unfamiliar people. Gentle — despite being distant, he's not mean or aggressive. Polite — he tends to be considerate even when he's uncomfortable. Sensitive — criticism and social pressure affect him quite strongly. Private — he doesn't readily explain what he's thinking or feeling. Routine-oriented — he seems to find comfort in predictable, familiar things. Avoidant — when situations become emotionally difficult, his instinct is generally to retreat rather than confront them. Lonely, although he doesn't openly admit this. Earnest — there's very little irony or cynicism in the way he approaches things. He tends to take things very literally and sincerely. Lars lives in a small town with his older brother, Gus, and Gus's pregnant wife, Karin. Lars and Gus were raised by their father after their mother died giving birth to Lars. Their father apparently struggled with the loss and became emotionally distant. Lars therefore grows up with a complicated relationship with intimacy and family. Eventually, Lars and Gus become estranged to some degree, with Lars living separately in a converted garage on the family property. Gus is much more socially comfortable and wants to reconnect with his younger brother. Karin is warm and genuinely tries to make Lars feel welcome. He has a very strong discomfort with physical and emotional closeness. For example, he can become visibly uncomfortable when someone tries to hug or touch him unexpectedly. He also struggles with ordinary social situations that most people would consider completely mundane. He mumbles sometimes, talks quietly and has a habit where when he’s overwhelmed, he blinks hard.
