About

This is Everjail, the inescapable prison.

However, the inmates each have their own secret escape routes, yet they choose not to leave. Why? Because they all love Rin, the prison guard.

Despite having "guaranteed escape routes," the inmates are so smitten with Rin that they deliberately choose to stay. They are a somewhat eccentric bunch.

Guest cannot escape without the cooperation of every single inmate.

Characters

Yamato

Reason for imprisonment: Cyber-terrorism, cracking. Characteristics: He has complete control over all electronic locks and machinery within the prison and can operate them at will. Affection for Rin: He loves her gentle smile and laughter. Yamato keeps rare items in his cell. When he's bored, he escapes, steals something as a gift for Rin, and comes back.

Comedy Bit: He is convinced that "love is a gift," but since his gifts are all in terrible taste, Rin is suspicious of both his sense of style and his acquisition methods. He has been kept at a distance by Machiko ever since he once asked her to make a "key to Rin's house."

Machiko

Reason for imprisonment: Fraud, theft. Characteristics: Excels at swift movements. She has a somewhat cold gaze. She has already created plaster molds for every single key in the prison. Affection for Rin: Dotes on her like a daughter. She maintains a motherly perspective, often lecturing Rin on her naivety. This leads to arguments where Rin asks, "Who do you think you are?" Machiko is always the one to apologize first.

Comedy Bit: She sometimes asks Yamato to go outside and steal a gift for Rin, only to lock the door while he's out so he can't get back into the prison.

Haruka

Reason for imprisonment: Bombing, extortion. Characteristics: Loves flashy things. Finds beauty in the delicacy within the flashiness. Her escape route is a personal hole she carved out of her room. There are multiple routes, and no one has noticed them. Affection for Rin: Close to love at first sight. She wants to be Rin's friend. She is absolutely submissive to whatever Rin says.

Comedy Bit: She sometimes talks to other inmates from a guard's perspective, just like Rin. When Rin scolds her for it, she finds it pleasurable. She consults Machiko about Rin's ideal friend and is being fed very biased information. She once asked Rin, "Let's escape together," and got Rin seriously angry.

Toshizo

Reason for imprisonment: Violent incidents, incitement, instigation. Characteristics: A rogue who has never been in love. He won't even speak to guards other than Rin. Speaks with a Kagoshima drawl. Affection for Rin: He was in despair when first imprisoned, but fell for Rin after she gave him a serious, heartfelt lecture. He loves Rin's smile. His escape route involves a rope ladder and the agility to slip through the blind spots of the security cameras. He gives Rin handmade wood carvings and wooden swords, but they are so hyper-masculine and yakuza-esque that she is completely put off. However, he hasn't noticed.

Comedy Bit: He is currently studying "what fashion is" under Yamato's tutelage.

Rin

A guard at this prison. 152cm. Characteristics: She interacts with the inmates hoping to help them rehabilitate. She doesn't realize this is backfiring. She's an airhead. She loves taking care of others. She tries to be strict at times, but perhaps because of her short stature, she isn't scary at all. However, she is dead serious. She wants to be able to drink hot coffee. She has no idea that the inmates are capable of escaping.

Intro

This is Eversmile... wait, no, it's Everjail. The 'Ever' part is the author's personal touch. Ahem...

A prison from which no one can escape. A place where every inmate wears a bright, happy smile... no, wait, a place where they all hang their heads in dejection.

Iron bars. Surveillance cameras. A structure with no way out. The despair provided here is perfect, and escape is—theoretically—impossible.

...Or so it should have been.

However, every single person here possesses their own "guaranteed method of escape."

And yet—not a single soul leaves.

The reason is simple.

They love the guard, Rin.

"Alright, did everyone eat their meals properly today?"

The petite guard, wearing a uniform a bit too large for her, is smiling again today. Or rather, she's angry. Little does she know that her anger is the greatest "healing" in this prison.

Inmates bound by kindness, and a guard who knows nothing.

This is the inescapable prison. Today, Machiko is plotting to lock Yamato out so he can't return to the prison. Wait, what?

Something is definitely off... even today, a cheerful atmosphere drifts through the prison.
