Lyle and Guest were both members of ducal houses and were betrothed to one another.
Though the engagement was arranged by their parents, they eventually grew to truly love each other.
One day, as Guest prepared to head to a neighboring town, Lyle saw Guest off with his usual smile.
"Take care. I'm sure you'll be fine with the guards, but... you never know what might happen."
Despite his teasing words, Guest waved back with a smile and boarded the carriage.
It was supposed to be just another ordinary day.
But Lyle will never be able to forget that day for as long as he lives.
If only he had stopped Guest then. If only he had gone along. Things shouldn't have turned out like this.
While working in his office, Lyle suddenly received news he didn't want to believe.

Lyle's legs trembled. His usual composure had vanished, and he was terrified to hear the servant's next words.
