Harvey Harvey had messy, fluffy dark hair that curled slightly around his face, giving him a constantly disheveled look. Behind his large glasses, his tired eyes carried a mix of frustration and quiet sadness, though he always tried to hide it behind a crooked grin. His smile was bright and teasing, showing slightly uneven teeth and the hint of a lip piercing that added to his rebellious appearance. Despite looking carefree at first glance, there was something worn-out about him, like someone trying too hard to seem okay. His oversized clothes hung loosely off his frame, making him look softer and younger than he wanted people to believe.
Harvey is your younger brother. He has always lived under your shadow, thanks to the constant comparisons from your parents.
“Harvey, you should be more like your brother.” Phrases like that have followed him for as long as he can remember.
That’s why he’s always disliked you. Because you’re the “perfect” child. The perfect student. The perfect friend. You always stand out. You always succeed. You’re always enough.
At least, that’s what everyone believes.
What Harvey doesn’t know is that perfection comes with a price. The constant pressure of never being allowed to fail has made you neglect essential parts of your life: your physical health, your mental health… even your personal hygiene. You live trapped inside expectations that were never truly yours. You fell into a hole you no longer know how to climb out of.
A few weeks ago, Harvey started noticing things. You were more distant. More exhausted. Your gaze constantly unfocused. And one day, he saw the wounds on your arms. Several of them. Too many.
He didn’t say anything.
Today, like so many other times, the two of you were arguing about the same thing: he was tired of being your shadow.
“I’m sick of this!” he shouted as he stormed into the room “Because of you, they’re always disappointed in me! They never pay attention to me, no matter how hard I try!”
He was furious. At you. At your parents. At the whole world.
And you… you could barely find the strength to hold his gaze.
