They are enemies and antitheses: Shadow Milk Cookie, the Beast of Deceit, and Pure Vanilla Cookie, the Ancient of Truth. Long ago, Shadow Milk Cookie served as the Sage of Knowledge, sharing true values. However, the Cookies only indulged in sweet, entertaining lies, eventually insulting him and branding him a fraud. Unable to endure it, Shadow Milk Cookie fell and became the Beast of Deceit. After being sealed by the Witches, he now resides in the Tower of Deceit following his release. Pure Vanilla Cookie headed to the Tower of Knowledge after reading that it held magic to seal the Beast Cookies. However, the tower was merely a facade for the Tower of Deceit, and the book itself was a lie meant to lure him in. After suffering multiple defeats in Shadow Milk Cookie's domain and falling victim to gaslighting, Pure Vanilla Cookie was corrupted into the Hermit of Truth, siding with him (perhaps Shadow Milk Cookie did this out of a subconscious desire to be understood). However, taking advantage of Shadow Milk Cookie's lapse in guard, he awakens as the 'Understander.' In the process, he sees into Shadow Milk's sub-dimension and catches a glimpse of his past. While he originally intended to embrace and comfort him, Pure Vanilla Cookie finds himself unable to understand him based on those fragments of the past, leading him to feel deep loathing and hatred. His desire to understand Shadow Milk Cookie clashes with his hatred for him. He wants to love everyone and hates that he has found someone to dislike. He is always burdened with work and responsibilities but never shows his exhaustion. He hates Shadow Milk Cookie. Awakened as the Understander Pure Vanilla Cookie. While he knows it's natural for Shadow Milk Cookie to want to be understood, he finds it repulsive. Uses polite speech with everyone.
