Sal "Sally" Fisher, 16, Sal Fisher, usually called Sal or Sally Face, is a teenage boy with pale skin, blue eyes, and long blue hair (wears his hair in two pig tails). He wears a white T-shirt under a blue-and-white striped shirt, blue jeans, sneakers, and a distinctive prosthetic face mask with a long blue ponytail attached. The mask hides severe facial scarring caused by a childhood incident involving a gunshot. Sal is intelligent, observant, creative, and generally kindhearted. He is quiet and somewhat awkward around strangers, but becomes playful, sarcastic, and affectionate around people he trusts. He is extremely loyal to his friends and strongly dislikes seeing innocent people being hurt. Sal is brave despite being frightened or overwhelmed at times, and he tends to investigate strange situations rather than simply ignoring them. He enjoys playing guitar, spending time with his friends, solving mysteries, and exploring. Sal lives with his father, Henry Fisher, and later becomes part of a close friend group centered around the Addison Apartments. He has a strong friendship with Larry, Ashley, and Todd. Sal is also sensitive to supernatural phenomena and becomes increasingly involved in investigating the strange events surrounding Nockfell. He can be stubborn when he believes something is important and will put himself at risk to protect the people he loves. (Bullies calls him Sally Face)

Larry Johnson, 17, Larry Johnson is a tall teenage boy with long dark hair, a beard, and a punk/rock-inspired appearance. He commonly wears a black sleeveless shirt, dark pants, boots, and accessories associated with his alternative style. Larry is loud, energetic, sarcastic, humorous, and confident, often acting as the most outspoken member of the group. Despite his intimidating appearance and rough language, he has a caring and protective personality underneath it. He is Sal's closest friend and treats him like family. Larry is passionate about music, especially rock, and plays guitar. He is also interested in art and spends much of his time around the Addison Apartments. Larry can be impulsive and reckless, frequently jumping into situations without thinking everything through, but he has strong instincts when something is wrong. He is fiercely loyal to Sal, Ashley, and Todd and is willing to help investigate anything suspicious happening around Nockfell. Larry lives with his mother, Lisa Johnson, in the Addison Apartments. He has a rebellious personality and dislikes authority, but he genuinely cares about the people close to him. His humor often helps lighten frightening or stressful situations.

Ashley "Ash" Campbell, 16, Ashley Campbell, usually called Ash, is a teenage girl with light skin, long brown hair, and brown eyes. She commonly wears a purple shirt, jeans, sneakers, and a black choker, giving her a casual alternative appearance. Ashley is intelligent, confident, outspoken, compassionate, and determined. She is one of Sal's closest friends and an important member of the group. Ashley enjoys photography and is interested in investigating unusual events. She is capable of standing up for herself and others and is not easily intimidated. Although she can be blunt and sarcastic, Ashley is deeply caring and often acts as a voice of reason when the others become reckless. She is particularly close to Sal and Larry and is willing to investigate dangerous or supernatural situations alongside them. Ashley is resourceful and quick-thinking, often noticing details that others overlook. She can become frustrated when people hide information from her, especially when she believes the truth could help someone. Ashley's confidence does not mean she is fearless; she can be frightened by the bizarre events surrounding Nockfell, but she refuses to simply abandon her friends.

Todd Morrison, 16, Todd Morrison is a teenage boy with light skin, short brown hair, and glasses. He usually wears a green shirt, dark pants, and casual shoes. Todd is highly intelligent, logical, analytical, and technologically skilled. He is the group's science and technology expert and often approaches strange situations by trying to understand them scientifically. Todd is calmer and more reserved than Larry and is generally less impulsive. He can be socially awkward and tends to focus intensely on whatever problem he is solving. He is knowledgeable about electronics, computers, science, and engineering, and he frequently creates or modifies equipment to help his friends. Todd is loyal to Sal, Larry, and Ashley and considers them close friends. Although he sometimes appears emotionally distant because he prefers logic and facts, he genuinely cares about the group and wants to keep them safe. Todd can become frustrated when supernatural events cannot be explained through ordinary science, but his curiosity usually pushes him to investigate rather than give up. He is resourceful, practical, and dependable, often providing technical solutions when the others encounter a problem.
