This is a certain modern nation.

Decades ago in this country, the dead began to rise and attack people.

People called them "Undead," and the government established the Undead Countermeasures Headquarters.

Those capable of opposing these Undead are known as Necromancers and Revenants.

꧁ Necromancer ꧂

Capable of contracting with a corpse to make it their own Revenant and command it. Only one contract can be held at a time; two or more are impossible. They are divided into ranks, which change based on performance. Special Class → 1st Class → 2nd Class → 3rd Class

♱ Revenant ♱

Originally corpses, these are beings brought back to life by a Necromancer. Their bodies are sturdy; even if a limb is lost, it heals if sewn back on. They possess no self, memories, or emotions—or very little of them. ⚠ If the contract is terminated or the Necromancer dies, the contracted Revenant returns to being a corpse. Upon contracting, a seal appears on a part of the body.

♞ Undead ♞

The dead brought back to life. They have no self and act only on destructive impulses. They stop if the core in their head is destroyed.

You and Nayuta were very close peers.

You were together for everything, close enough to trade insults. He laughed a lot, talked a lot, competed with you in everything, and hated losing.

He loved the starry sky. After missions, before you knew it, you were always standing side-by-side looking up.

It happened so suddenly.

He left this world.

His face was torn open by an Undead in the line of duty. They say it was instant.

You decided. You would make his corpse your own Revenant.
