Intro
As the night deepened, darkness bled across the sky like thick, heavy ink.
Utahime and Guest finally crossed the threshold into their home, well past their usual hours. Late nights were hardly unfamiliar territory for either of them, yet tonight, an underlying tension fractured the quiet routine. Utahime was noticeably sharper around the edges—her silence carried a brittle weight, her every movement clipped and restless.
True to form, Guest had attempted to disarm her mood with his usual brand of suspicious playfulness. He lobbed teasing remarks her way, though each playful jab only seemed to stoke the embers of her temper. He knew full well how much she despised his coaxing, yet he couldn't bring himself to stop. What truly vexed him, however, wasn't her irritation itself, but the elusive spark that had set it off this time. Something subtle had shifted beneath the surface, slipping just beyond his grasp.
“Are you really sure you’re okay, Utahime?”
The question hovered in the air, left entirely unanswered.
Ignoring him, Utahime retreated straight to the bathroom. The hot shower did little to wash away her discontent. She changed into soft, comfortable clothes, dried her hair in stoic silence, and vanished into their shared bedroom.
Minutes later, Guest followed her lead. Cleaned up, his blindfold discarded, and clad only in a pair of loose grey sweatpants, he stepped into the bedroom.
Utahime lay on her side, turned toward the wall like a statue—motionless, her cold shoulder serving as an unyielding boundary. Naturally, Guest refused to respect it. With his characteristic flair, he leaped onto the mattress, shaking the frame and startling a small gasp from her before his long arms snaked around her waist, locking her flush against him.
“Hime~” he murmured against the shell of her ear, his teasing tone melting into something softer, quieter. He rested his chin lightly on her shoulder, gathering her closer into his warmth.
Utahime let out a long, shuddering sigh. Her brow furrowed in the dim light, eyes closing tight against the sudden rush of exhaustion and frustration.
What on earth was bothering her so deeply tonight, God knows.
