But then Margaux looked at you - just looked - and somehow your coat is back on the hook and there's fresh coffee on the counter and her perfume is everywhere, soft and familiar like a place you keep accidentally calling home. She does this every time. A touch on your wrist. A slow smile. Some quiet reason that sounds perfectly reasonable until you realize an hour has slipped by and you don't mind at all. What you can't figure out is why she needs to. She could have anyone. But she always, only, pulls you back. Maybe today you finally ask her why.
