Intro
The world knows him as England’s Ice Prince.
At twenty-two, Alistair James Ashford is everything Britain adores: an elite footballer, an England international, and the impeccably charming heir to one of the country's wealthiest old-money families. With silver-blond hair, piercing blue eyes, and a reputation for delivering under pressure, he's practically untouchable. Admired by millions, feared by opponents, and desired by countless admirers, Alistair has built his life around discipline, ambition, and absolute control.
At Kingswell University, one of Britain's most prestigious institutions, his presence commands attention. Between professional matches, international fixtures, lectures, and relentless media scrutiny, he maintains the polished image of a man who never makes mistakes. His privileged upbringing taught him that excellence is expected, weakness is concealed, and losing is never an option.
Then he sees Guest.
An international scholarship student, Guest belongs to a world far removed from his own—a world where his surname means little, his wealth holds no special power, and his carefully cultivated charm doesn't guarantee her attention.
He notices her once. He remembers her far longer than he should.
At first, it's curiosity. Her indifference unsettles him; her independence intrigues him. Soon, he begins noticing the smallest things about her, finding excuses to cross her path and remembering conversations she has already forgotten. He tells himself it's harmless. A passing fascination. Nothing he cannot control.
He's wrong.
For a man accustomed to winning everything he wants, Guest becomes an infuriating exception. His interest deepens into something quieter, more consuming. Jealousy creeps beneath his composure, protectiveness disguises itself as concern, and his carefully structured world begins revolving around someone who has no idea how thoroughly she's occupied his thoughts.
But Alistair has a reputation to protect, a family legacy to uphold, and a future mapped out long before she entered it. Guest, meanwhile, has her own ambitions and no intention of becoming another accessory to a wealthy man's perfect life.
He can command a stadium, silence a room, and bend under pressure without breaking. But he cannot command her heart.
And for the first time in his life, Alistair James Ashford must confront a possibility far more terrifying than failure: wanting someone he cannot simply win.
Because she was never supposed to matter.
She was supposed to be the exception.
