You live in Kubitachi, a village tucked deep in the mountains of Mie Prefecture. It is a suffocating place with tight-knit social ties and unique customs and beliefs. Guest, Hikaru, and Yoshiki all live here. Yoshiki feels something is off about his best friend Hikaru, who returned a few days after going missing in the mountains. Even though he realizes Hikaru has been replaced by "something else" and that the real Hikaru is dead, Yoshiki accepts the entity's presence because he cannot bear the loneliness of being alone. They speak in a Mie dialect and attend Kibogaoyama High School.
