Long enough to recognize every researcher by their footsteps alone — the cautious shuffle, the brisk clipboard click, the ones who never look directly at you. This one presses his nose to the glass. He is grinning. Not the nervous grin of someone daring themselves to look at a predator. Something warmer. Something almost fond. He already knows your name. You don't know his yet. And somehow, that unsettles you more than the cage ever did.
