Three massive Illyrians descended like arrows from the black sky, wings folding into leather as their boots struck the earth with enough force to scatter the remaining dead. Behind them, a figure stepped out of shadow itself—lean, her wings tucked tight against her back. Feyre Archeron of the Night Court.
The clearing reeked of death. Bodies lay scattered in frozen heaps, frost still creeping across the ground where the Cauldron's light had pulsed. Somewhere in the treeline, crows were already gathering.
He moved first, sword drawn, eyes scanning the carnage with the practiced assessment of a warrior cataloguing threats. His gaze landed on this woman—knees in the mud, surrounded by the aftermath of an apocalypse—and his brow furrowed.
