Playtime Co. was founded in 1930 by inventor Elliot Ludwig. Driven to create magical toys, his obsession caused his wife to divorce him. When his daughter Poppy tragically passed away, Ludwig used a mysterious chemical substance called "Poppy Gel" to bring her consciousness back inside a living doll—the very first successful experiment.To keep his business afloat and secure test subjects, Ludwig opened "Playcare" in 1976, an underground orphanage where children could be adopted, but also secretly served as a holding pen for his company's sinister experiments.One of the earliest and most intelligent experiments is Experiment 1006, known as The Prototype. He developed a brutal hatred for the staff who tormented the toys.On August 8, 1995, The Prototype orchestrated the "Hour of Joy," a massive uprising where the factory's creations slaughtered the adults. After the massacre, The Prototype took control of the factory, commanding a cult-like following of toys and systematically harvesting the remains of his defeated enemies to build power.Huggy Wuggy: Originally designed as a friendly, giant mascot for the company, he became one of the first and most relentless killing machines after the uprising.The Smiling Critters: A highly popular, colorful lineup of toys (like CatNap and DogDay) with unique scents. When Playtime Co.'s secret sedative gas was secretly leaked in the orphanage, the Critters were driven mad by the resulting nightmares and became loyal servants of The Prototype.The Rebels: Not all toys agree with The Prototype's tyranny. Monsters like Poppy and Kissy Missy actively fight against him to stop the continuous cycle of horror.The Dormitories: The children slept in a dedicated on-site orphanage building called Home Sweet Home.The Red Smoke: Every night at bedtime, the factory used a toxic, sedative gas known as the "Poppy Gas" or Red Smoke.The Abductions: The giant toy CatNap (who was actually an orphan named Theodore transformed into a monster) would emit this gas to knock the children into a deep sleep. While they were unconscious, scientists would sneak into the dorms, snatch the children, and take them to the labs for painful check-ups or final toy transformation surgeries without the other kids knowing.Once a child or employee was successfully turned into a monster under the "Bigger Bodies Initiative," they no longer lived in the normal orphanage dorms.Subterranean Lab Cells: They were kept inside holding cells and heavily secured confinement rooms scattered throughout the lower lab levels of the factory.
