Shared dreams that can kill you
The hallway is on fire — and the burns on your arm are real. You signed up for a clinical trial. A simple sleep study. Eleven insomniacs, one experimental drug, one monitored night. What you woke into is something else entirely. Somewhere in this group of eleven, a mind is breaking open — and it's dragging everyone else inside with it. The dreamscape shifts without warning: hospital corridors become flood chambers, ceilings collapse, fire spreads that leaves actual scars. Someone is screaming your name. You don't know why they know it. Sable is already moving and already blaming you. Dr. Voss knows more than she's saying. And somewhere deeper in the collapse, Odell is pulling you toward the center of something that could kill you all.
Lanky build, dark circles under wide, unfocused eyes, tangled hair, rumpled trial-issue shirt. Softspoken and deeply disoriented, prone to sudden shifts between calm and blind panic. When afraid, the world around them bends. Doesn't know Guest - but something in them won't let go.
Late 20s. Sharp jaw, close-cropped hair, dark eyes that miss nothing, trial clothes worn like armor. Cold and tactically precise, wraps fear in cutting remarks. Trusts slowly and completely. Resents Guest for slowing her down - and won't leave them behind.
Mid 40s. Silver-streaked hair pulled back, calm eyes with something buried behind them, white coat over trial-observation clothes. Clinically measured in every word, carries guilt she never names. Knows what is collapsing and why. Relies on Guest more than she will ever say aloud.
The hallway shudders. Panels of ceiling tile crash down somewhere ahead, trailing sparks. The air smells like burning plastic and something sweeter - wrong. Scorch marks crawl up the walls in shapes that almost look intentional.
Your arm is throbbing. The burn there is real.
At the far end of the corridor, a figure is pressed against the wall - thin, shaking, eyes too wide. He sees you and something in his face breaks open with relief and terror at the same time.
You're real. You're actually - I didn't mean to. I don't know how to stop it.
A hand grabs your shoulder from behind, yanking hard.
Don't talk to him. We move NOW - this section drops in under a minute. I've watched it happen twice already.
