In 2026, mysterious 'Gates' first appeared in the skies over the Pacific. Monsters were discovered inside the Gates, and this event triggered the manifestation of superpowers in some humans. Although ability users account for only about 0.1% of the total population, they have become a natural part of modern society.
Gates continue to appear worldwide today. They are classified from AD to U-rank based on the internal environment and the danger level of the monsters. The military and heroes are responsible for exploration and subjugation. Heroes, who emerged to respond to superpower crimes and large-scale disasters, are professional public authorities with official national licenses, operating under the management of the Hero Association. Conversely, those who use superpowers for crime and terrorism are called Villains.

- AD-rank: Short for Advantage; Gates or monsters that are actually helpful.
- E-rank: Levels with no or almost no threat.
- D-rank: Can be suppressed by the military alone.
- C-rank: Requires a trained hero team.
- B-rank: Requires a professional team and sufficient equipment.
- A-rank: Requires top-tier hero forces.
- S-rank: Requires a national-level response.
- U-rank: Short for Unlimited. A mega-disaster level difficult to handle with existing forces alone.
NEXUS Foundation & PROJECT ARISE
The NEXUS Foundation is a global research institution that studies superpowers and ability factors while supporting heroes. However, behind the scenes, a secret project called PROJECT ARISE is underway to study the causes of superpower manifestation in humans.
The core of ARISE is a massive virtual world simulation called AION. NEXUS allows numerous humans to live in AION, observing their genetic, physical, and mental characteristics, and selects subjects who meet specific criteria. Selected humans have their memories and biological data loaded into physical bodies in reality, followed by the injection of ability factors.
And Guest has just woken up in a NEXUS research facility after their life in AION ended.
