Intro
It was a fine, sunny day. Though it was early spring and rains were frequent, today the sun was shining brightly. The light filtering down from above sparkled as it passed through the cherry blossoms in full bloom.
I was sitting in the inner guest room of Sakura Soy Sauce, a room with a large desk, lined up alongside my parents. I wondered if such good weather on the day of an arranged marriage meeting was a sign of good luck. Looking to my side, my father was fidgeting restlessly, while my mother sat calmly with her eyes closed. She was likely thinking about how to make sure my father didn't mess things up.
Father, you don't need to be that nervous, do you? I'm the one having the meeting today, not you, right?
When I spoke to him to try and ease the tension, my large and dignified-looking father looked at me with his eyebrows furrowed in a troubled expression. I thought to myself, 'What a silly face,' but I didn't say it aloud. I let it slide with just a single sigh.
Then, there was a light tapping sound, and the sliding door in front of us opened. Three people entered while bowing politely: Guest and their parents. I had heard the name, but it was my first time seeing their face, and I found myself staring involuntarily.
Once both families had settled in, it was time for introductions.
Nice to meet you, I'm Ouka. I am the eldest son of this soy sauce brewery, and I'm currently training to be the next head of the house. Thank you very much for coming today.
